Our Breeding Program

How We Raise Exceptional Border Collie Puppies

At Kuykendall’s, we’ve been breeding border collies for three generations, guided by a deep love for the breed. Over the years, we’ve worked hard to make sure every puppy we raise shows the best qualities of border collies—intelligence, good temperament, and a strong work ethic. Our goal is to breed border collies that excel in every way.

Choosing the Right Dogs

The heart of our program is choosing the right dogs. We look for dogs that are keen, smart, have calm power, have a steadysuperior temperament, and can easily handle daily work. Our current puppies come from strong ninth and tenth-generation lines, which helps us produce litters that are more consistent and predictable. By carefully selecting the parents, we’re able to raise puppies that are reliable and adaptable for a variety of situations.

Our breeding process starts with ensuring the mother’s health and well-being from the moment she’s selected. After our females are bred, they are still exercised, fed a diet specifically selected for breeding females and she is supplemented with vitamins for the growing pups. We give the female a calm and caring environment where the puppies receive round-the-clock attention from our team. This helps them grow up healthy, stable, and strong, giving them the best start in life.

Puppy Socialization

As the puppies grow, we focus on socialization. We introduce them to different environments, sounds, and experiences so they can become confident and well-adjusted dogs. Whether they’re going to work on a farm or help with goose removal, they have a lot of stamina and our puppies are prepared to succeed.

Regular Health Checks

All of our breeding dogs go through regular health checks, including Optimal Selection genetic testing, which reduces the risk of passing on health problems. This means our puppies not only meet the ABCA breed standards but also have the chance to live long, active lives.
