Dog Training for Geese Control
Dog training can go far beyond basic commands, and the training of each dog can be customized for each client. This is especially important when working with Border Collies who will be helping their handlers professionally. We discuss with our clients to understand their needs and tailor the dog’s training. We work with Border Collies not only in training environments but out on the field so we know exactly how their skills translate to the real world.
Natural Instinct of Border Collies to Herd
Border Collies have long been used for herding other animals. They are considered to be a highly intelligent breed of dog and can be trained to control geese and other animals. Hundreds of years of breeding have given us these incredible dogs that can effectively assist handlers in goose control. Farmers have utilized dogs as effective means to control their livestock across their property saving them a lot of time and effort. With a trained Border Collie you are able to safely foster a healthy amount of fear in the geese infesting your space.
Border collies are agile and quick, meaning they can work in large properties like golf courses, campuses, or parks. As highly driven dogs Border Collies are always up for the task of bird “hunting” and find fulfillment in working alongside their handlers. These dogs are much more motivated, energetic, and obedient than a standard Collie, and they love providing service and receiving praise for their work. If you’re looking to have a trained Border Collie assist with goose control we offer a full training service. We provide extensive training to each dog to prepare them for their work and ensure they won’t hesitate when in action. Many goose control businesses utilize these intelligent, well-trained dogs as the foundation for their services because they are naturally reliable and happy to help.
Our Goose Herding Training Process
With over six decades of experience working with dogs, Kuykendall provides exceptional training for every dog that goes through our training program. We work very closely with our Border Collies to ensure they are trained beyond industry standards and are fully ready to begin their work with geese. Our lead trainer has received awards and is nationally recognized for his work with dogs.
Border Collies have a strong work ethic, which allows them to be molded into the perfect goose control companion. We provide Border Collies for many goose control professionals and they return to us when they need additional dogs. Because Border Collies have such a high prey drive it’s important to hone that ability early on. This breed of dog will have an innate desire to chase other animals that move, and with training from a professional handler, they are able to sharpen this trait for geese control. We begin working with each dog to build a solid foundation and make sure they train well in basics. As we begin herding training we introduce more difficult scenarios for them to learn from. Most of the process of training a goose control dog is field training, which gives the dog a lot of paws-on experience. Our dogs are trained to work both on land and in water. As we work with each dog we focus on self-control and obedience so that even in the middle of a chase they will listen and be obedient.
Border Collies: A Goose’s Natural Prey
As trained goose wranglers, these dogs are able to simulate a stalking experience for the geese, which makes them feel unsafe in the environment. By continuously stalking the geese you can safely nudge them to relocate and stay off your property.
A dog’s prey drive is their natural instinct to chase other animals. A Border Collie is a top choice for goose control because they are naturally peaceful and rarely express aggression. Some breeds experience higher levels of aggression, and their natural instinct to hunt is not as easily controlled. With Border Collies, prey drive is not always correlated to aggression, and is rarely attributed to negative emotions in the dog.
The aspects of prey drive follow a specific sequence and when a dog is professionally trained can be a honed skill. The prey drive of Border Collies begins with the Search where they seek out their target. Then they Eye-Stalk their target before beginning the Chace. Their final instinct of this sequence is to grab the target with their mouth, however, trained Border Collies can be taught to instead herd. Because of prey drive, these dogs excel at creating a scenario for the geese that makes them feel unsafe in the environment. These dogs are naturally perfect for the job and can be taught to follow commands very closely, even in the middle of their hunt.
Kuykendall Facilities & Training Staff
Our training program exceeds expectations and provides highly trained, highly effective dogs that are ready to work. With a massive 85-acre property we provide real-world scenarios and field-train all of our Border Collies. With different training fields, we are able to begin each dog in a smaller environment and increase the difficulty of their exercises as they grow in skill. Some of our largest fields provide learning opportunities for the dog to listen for instructions while being a long distance away from the handler. This is important when it comes to geese since they are mobile and often spend time in large open areas. For water training, we have ponds and streams to provide training across diverse landscapes. Each dog is trained to work with land animals and waterfowl like ducks and geese. This promotes adaptability and helps them navigate different situations while working.
Our staff consists of nationally recognized trainers. With years of experience and countless dogs trained, we offer a premier dog training experience. Our lead trainer not only prepares dogs to control geese but also works on the field. His hands-on experience with geese control in Charlotte, North Carolina, gives him key insight into what these dogs need to succeed.
